Water Body: Nulhegan River
Nearest Community: Bloomfield, Vermont
Report Date: July 3, 2017; updated with new photos May 2019
The portage below the "stone dam" was shortened and the notoriously low water level of the East Branch Nulhegan can now be avoided by following the improved reroute. The Nulhegan Gorge Carry passes by a campsite and an enclosed timber-frame hut erected in 2016. This campsite is secluded, but accessible by road.
The Nulhegan Hut is an insulated 14×18, timber framed cabin with a loft, kitchen area, wood stove, deck, and porch. Built by Yestermorrow Design Build School students and over forty volunteers, it is open for use by advanced reservation through the Vermont Huts Association. Firewood and cooking gas is provided. Staying at the Hut is fee-based and reservations are required.
