Day 35, Aug. 7, Paddler Swap Day

Drove to Bangor, ME today to take Joyce to the airport and pick up Kacia who was flying in from Raleigh, NC, about a 2.5 hour drive one way from Stratton, passing through the Carrabassett Valley. Joyce and I had spotted the ski runs yesterday from Cranberry Peak. It rained all day today. (Yeah! Means one less chance of it raining while paddling.) Had the gas pumped by an attendant at a full-service gas station for the same self-serve price in Bangor. Nice!

Kacia's plane arrived on time and the three of us had lunch together at Nikki's before dropping Joyce back at the terminal. On the way back to Stratton, stopped at my first Gifford's Ice Cream store. Also nice! Drove back along Hwy 16 looking for more moose. No luck, but did get a picture of the S. Branch of the Dead River. Got back to the Maine Roadhouse around 7 pm and repacked for Kacia's leg of the trip that begins tomorrow.

Joyce hands off the baton to Kacia at the Bangor Airport.

Someone can hardly wait to start her section of the trip.
