Day 10, July 13 Canoe Fixing/Paddler Swap Day

0 paddling miles. 100% piece of mind.
Burlington VT

Weather: Perfectly timed, mid-afternoon thunderstorm, that found us in Canoe Imports in Burlington, VT.

Got a hold of Mike at Canoe Imports first thing in the morning and was able to drop off the canoe enroute to picking up Beckie at the airport. Timing worked out perfectly. I even processed my first batch of photos so Sam could take them back home. Sam, Beckie and I got to explore the very cool downtown Burlington and had lunch at the Red Onion. Went back to the hotel and repacked. Picked up the nicely patched-up hole and a few other structurally-compromised spots, with the now fixed up canoe while it poured rain. Turns out another thru paddler, Darrin Kimbler, who is currently Canoeing Across America, used to work at the shop. Small world.

Reorganizing gear with Becky in Burlington, VT.

Sam passes off the baton to Becky for Leg 2.

Drove up to North Hero Island and had a fine dinner at the North Hero House Inn and Restaurant. Asked about places to stay (the Inn had no vacancy) and our waitress helped us out, including offering to give us a ride in the morning back south so we would be able to paddle more of Lake Champlain.

Stayed at the Holiday Harbor Motel, near Hero Island State Park on the Allsburg Passage side. Highly recommend staying here instead of trying to camp at North Hero if the timing is right. More about that next.
